MAKING SPECIFICATION EASY
We are excited to be the first and only timber flooring supplier in New Zealand to have CodeMark for all Wood Flooring Collections, and now have the most comprehensive timber flooring system that is fully compliant with the current building code.
Specifying our CodeMark certified timber flooring ensures the Building Consent Process is quicker, RFI’s are reduced and the possibility of council delaying consent in the submission stage of your project is eliminated.
Our decision to undergo the process of obtaining CodeMark certification for all our timber flooring collections was in response to feedback from clients who were having difficulties getting council consent for timber flooring in kitchens and other wet areas. Now that our flooring is fully compliant with the building code changes, you can rest assured that by specifying our products, you’ll easily gain consent from council.
How does it benefit you?
Architects:
-
It speeds up the Building Consent Process
-
Less paperwork and reduces time with RFI’s

Eliminates the possibility of council delaying consent in the submission stage of the project
Installers:
-

Homeowners:

Reduces the costs associated with RFIs from council
-
Gives you peace of mind that the product is fully compliant with the NZ building code
Simply put, a CodeMark makes it simple to gain compliance for Wet Areas (E3 compliance) when specifying timber flooring in kitchens and other wet areas in both single-dwelling and multi-dwelling residential and commercial buildings.

What is CodeMark?
CodeMark is a voluntary product certification scheme that shows a building product or method meets the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code. It is an unchallengeable form of product assurance and has legal status equivalent to that of an Acceptable Solution or Verification Method.
Building consent authorities must accept a CodeMark certificate as evidence of compliance with the New Zealand Building Code, as long as the product is used in accordance with the scope and limitations defined on the certificate.
What does this mean for me as a specifier?
While all our timber flooring collections are compliant with the building code, specifying Moda and Urban products with a CodeMark Certification will ensure council approves applications without question (provided the specification adheres to the scope of use).
Architects: How do I specify and ensure it is within the Scope of use?
- Refer to the Forté Timber Overlay Flooring System Design Guide and to ensure you specify in accordance with the Scope of Use.
- Specify the 6311FF Forte Timber Overlay System in MasterSpec, or work with your Forté representative who will be able to assist you in the specification process.
Builders & Installers: How does this change how I install Forte Timber Flooring?
- The council approves the building consent based on the system specified, so it is important that you install in accordance with the architect’s specification. Check this when pricing the job and if there are any concerns with the method or products being used ensure you raise these prior to submitting your price/quote.
- Ensure you have read the latest version of the Forté Overlay Flooring System Installation Guide and always follow our guidance alongside the notes on the specification. If information conflicts at any point, please get in touch with the Forte Technical team to discuss solution.
