Commercial applications such as bars, restaurants, lobbies, busy retail stores are extremely demanding environments for a timber floor. From constant food and drink spills, to foot traffic, wheeled equipment and more, its easy to see how even the most durable lacquer-finished floor can start to deteriorate. Read on to find out what can you do to ensure the longevity of a timber floor in these applications.
Deep clean (as often as required)
After a period of time (largely depending on the level of traffic and floor texture), timber flooring in high traffic areas can accumulate a buildup of dirt and grime. When it gets to this stage, your floor should be deep cleaned. This can be done with a Bona power scrubber the process is outlined in our article Commercial Timber Floor Cleaning Guide.
Coating refresh (every 12+ months)
If the lacquer coating on your timber floor is lightly scratched or starting to look dull, it"s probably time for the coating to be refreshed. To refresh an existing Forté lacquer finished floor in a high traffic area, you first must ensure your floor has been deep cleaned as mentioned above. Following this the floor surface should to be lightly skimmed then coated with 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD lacquer. The complete process should be carried out by an approved applicator. In high traffic areas we recommend the Bona Traffic HD lacquer coating to be refreshed every 12+ months (depending on the level of wear) by an approved applicator. Before each application the floor should be cleaned with a power scrubber to remove any dirt or debris from the surface. The floor surface will also need to be lightly skimmed again prior to each application.
Complete re-sand (for badly scratched or damaged floors)
If your timber floor is badly scratched or damaged, it may require more serious attention. You may consider having it sanded back and refinished
